No rational-thinking person would release a film without a trailer, right?
Deliberately, 61 HUGS was released without a trailer. Seven weeks later, however, having secured almost 11,000 views and over 130 shares on facebook, the time is right.
61 HUGS is a highly linear film - it remains true to the daring plot parameters as outlined in the opening scene. So, faced with this, how do your cut a trailer without revealing the soul of the film? The answer, as we saw it, is "you can't".
As the film enters phase two of its promotion, however, and armed with stunning media quotes we're incredibly proud of, we revisited the 'trailer dilemma', and after a series of cuts, we produced a clip that fulfilled three key objectives:
1: using assertive copy, the trailer must halt/disrupt social media scrolling. Immediately, the clip should illicit intrigue via a compelling proposition. Crucially, these outcomes must be achieved without the use of audio - given the lack of audio in key social media autoplay functions
2: communicate the vulnerability, heart and compassion of the film without betraying the greater spectacle
3: feature a prominent call-to-action
With incredible festival announcements to make early 2019, the time for an official 61 HUGS trailer is officially here, and we hope fans think it measures up to the film itself.
